I liked this better (because of the filter and fun with the amp envelope) but it is not as useful if you wanted to basically pass through audio. So the Erebus's audio input is only open while there is a note playing. Delay works better in mono than reverb if you ask me, and using the audio in with the delay is good fun.Īnother thing to note if you plan on using the audio inputs of either: The Nyx's audio input goes through the reverb and back out while the Erebus's audio input goes through the filter, then amp, then delay. I also prefer the onboard delay to the onboard reverb. It does everything from plucks to fat bass well. Like I said, the sound in the videos I researched was very indicative of what I could get from it. Even with little decay, worse with more decay. On mine when I turned the reverb mix up the synth volume would lower. The reverb is interesting that's for sure. The envelopes(modulators) are not snappy and are also not your typical ADSR type even with the hold switch up in that they do not exactly have a long tail. If you like to experiment with filters in series, one per oscillator, high pass into low pass for a band pass etc. If you would like to have dual LFOs at your filter, or if you find yourself wanting to use a bunch of LFOs in general. The Nyx is very cool if you find yourself wishing that you could alter how the filter interacts with the oscillators or if you wish you had more than one envelope for your filter. The Erebus is immediately satisfying and very straight forward, the Nyx is almost the opposite of that. I found the Nyx to be a bit harder to come up with a sound I wanted to use than the Erebus. But if you are not after that sound then I would get he Erebus. The videos for the Nyx are pretty spot on for what you'll be getting. My advice would be to watch the demo videos on youtube a bunch before you make your decision. I wrote this up a couple months ago but here it is again:
